The appointee is responsible for providing short term counselling for individuals, adolescents, couples and families. In doing so, he/she will work closely with FMC colleagues in developing a coordinated and integrated approach to assisting clients to resolve relationship difficulties effectively.

To be considered for this role you will need to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the effects of conflict on families and relationships together with knowledge and experience in brief therapy approaches, conflict resolution approaches and short term counselling processes. Experience in working with young people, couples, families and individuals in providing short term counselling, family therapy and other assistance is essential as is experience in dealing with parenting issues, adolescents and complex family dynamics. Mediation experience with adolescents and parents would be a distinct advantage. Medicare registered service providers are particularly encouraged to apply, as are candidates with psychology or mental health social worker backgrounds.

Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner

Applications are now invited for appointment to the position of Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.  The appointee will be responsible for providing family dispute resolution services (mediation).  Specific work tasks will include:

  • Identifying problem-solving options and strategies and providing assistance in clarifying clients’ problems and disputes
  • Assisting parents negotiate sustainable and workable parenting plans
  • Assisting parents negotiate financial settlements when these present alongside parenting issues
  • Providing assessment in relation to the provision of Certificates as required by Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner Regulations
  • Facilitating group programs where required.

Prospective candidates must be able to demonstrate registration as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner together with a proven ability to work within Family Law Act.  Knowledge of the effects of separation and divorce on families is essential as is an understanding of the concepts and philosophy of family dispute resolution including mediation and conciliation.  Other essential criteria include the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to issues as they arise, excellent communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to rapidly build rapport with clients.

This position is based at our Narre Warren office though will require will require the successful candidate to work from such other FMC locations as required from time to time.  Evening work (until 8pm) will be required one day per week, currently on a Tuesday evening.

The appointee/s will possess demonstrable career experience as a Psychologist or Accredited Mental Health Social Worker together with extensive experience in delivering therapeutic interventions across a range of mental health areas. Experience managing a multidisciplinary team would be a distinct advantage.

Child Counsellor

Location: Ringwood

Child Counsellors are responsible for providing therapeutic interventions to children from separating families.

Child Counsellors provide therapeutic interventions to children from separating families – which includes child consultations as part of the Family Dispute Resolution process, individual child counselling, group work facilitation and education and skills training.  Specific work tasks include:

  • Undertaking risk assessments with children and family to determine level of support and nature of intervention required;
  • Provision of counselling to children and adolescents using a range of therapeutic interventions;
  • Provision of timely and appropriate referrals for children and their families as required, and;
  • Ongoing communication and psycho-education with parents throughout counselling to ensure children continue to be supported.

To be considered for appointment to this role, prospective candidates must possess relevant tertiary qualifications (ie: Psychology and/or Social Work) together with demonstrated experience in providing assessment, counselling and support to school aged children and families in the context of their parent’s separation.

Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with children from separated families is essential as is knowledge and understanding of child development and a strong working knowledge of relevant theoretical approaches for working with children.

Other essential criteria include excellent communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to engage and build rapport with clients; well developed organisation and time management skills and a proven ability to deliver child inclusive practice in a culturally sensitive manner.  Evening work (until 8pm) will be required on one evening during the week, currently on a Tuesday.

Psychologist

Location: Bayside / Eastern Suburbs

The position holder provides psychological services to eligible clients by referral who are affected and/or impacted by mental illness.  Key work tasks associated with this role include:

  • Determining client eligibility for service delivery;
  • Development of Psychological Treatment Plans (PTPs);
  • Provision of treatment by way of individual, group and/or family sessions;
  • Reviewing progress of PTPs and the outcomes of sessions, supports and strategies, and;
  • Referral of clients to alternative support services as and where appropriate.

To be considered for appointment to this role, prospective candidates must possess tertiary qualifications in Psychology, an active provider number with Medicare and hold either general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) or registration in the health profession of psychology with AHPRA and endorsement by the Psychology Board of Australia to practice in clinical psychology.

The appointee will possess comprehensive experience and interest in the assessment and treatment of a variety of psychological conditions across a broad client group including children.
