Family Counsellor and Project Officer

Family Counsellor role incorporating project coordination of the Gippsland Family Law Pathways Network

The appointee will provide short-term counselling for individuals, adolescents, couples and families whilst also facilitating the operations of the Gippsland Family Law Pathways Network.  Key deliverables associated with this role include:

  • The provision of high-quality counselling, conflict resolution and group work services to individuals, couples and families who may be experiencing distress or conflict
  • To establish links between post-separation services across the catchment area through a Family Law Pathways Network, and to organise regional meetings of the Network;
  • To establish, promote and maintain the profile of FMC in the wider community;
  • To establish and maintain effective and positive relationships between FMC and other service providers;
  • To establish and maintain contact with relevant community service organisations, legal firms, government departments, and individuals as appropriate.

Prospective candidates will need to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the effects of conflict on families and relationships together with knowledge and experience in brief therapy approaches, conflict resolution approaches and short-term counselling processes.  Experience in working with young people, couples, families and individuals in providing short term counselling, family therapy and other assistance is essential as is experience in dealing with parenting issues, adolescents and complex family dynamics.  An appropriate tertiary qualification together with a proven ability to engage both private and community based services is essential as is experience in the facilitation of groups and events.  In particular, the appointee will have demonstrated experience in promotion, marketing and networking strategies together with well-developed relationship management skills.  Other essential criteria include expert communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop creative solutions to situations as they arise.   A current motor driver licence and use of own vehicle is also required.

This position is based in our Traralgon office and is available on a part time basis (0.8 FTE/4 days per week).

Family Consultant

Location: Frankston/Mornington

Exciting opportunity to support the implementation of an integrated model of care for responding to suspected elder abuse.

FMC has been selected to provide counselling and mediation services (including financial counselling) to the trial of the Department of Health and Human Services’s (DHHS) integrated model of care responding to suspected elder abuse.  FMC will work with DHHS and other partners in the trial to further develop an integrated service model for responding to elder abuse.

The appointee assumes responsibility for coordinating all client activity within the program with key work tasks including the following:

  • Development of a close working relationship with Elder Abuse Prevention and Response Liaison Officer to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients;
  • Undertaking high level client assessment, care planning for clients, acting as a consultant with older clients in mediation services and referring clients to services that best meet their needs;
  • Provision of counselling services to older clients where appropriate and coordination of all referrals to other services within FMC;
  • Promotion of the DHHS integrated model of care for responding to suspected elder abuse and in doing so, liaise and network with relevant community services organisations, Aged Care Services, hospitals and alike.

To be considered for appointment to this role, prospective candidates must be either a Registered Nurse or Social Worker with appropriate tertiary qualifications.  The appointee will possess extensive experience in undertaking high level client assessment, care planning and coordination in both community and hospital settings and will have experience in and an understanding of the Aged Care sector.  High level skills in screening and assessment of elder abuse are essential as is well developed knowledge of complex care options and services available to the aged.  Other essential criteria include outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, excellent time management skills and highly developed problem solving ability.

This position is available on a part time basis at 0.6 FTE (days and spread of hours flexible) for a period of 12 months (with the possibility of extension) and is based at Peninsula Health in the Frankston/Mornington region.

The position holder provides psychological services to eligible clients by referral who are affected and/or impacted by mental illness.  Key work tasks associated with this role include:

  • Determining client eligibility for service delivery;
  • Development of Psychological Treatment Plans (PTPs);
  • Provision of treatment by way of individual, group and/or family sessions;
  • Reviewing progress of PTPs and the outcomes of sessions, supports and strategies, and;
  • Referral of clients to alternative support services as and where appropriate.

To be considered for appointment to this role, prospective candidates must possess tertiary qualifications in Psychology, an active provider number with Medicare and hold either general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) or registration in the health profession of psychology with AHPRA and endorsement by the Psychology Board of Australia to practice in clinical psychology.

The appointee will possess comprehensive experience and interest in the assessment and treatment of a variety of psychological conditions across a broad client group including children.

This position is available on a full-time basis and is based in the Cardinia region incorporating service delivery in Pakenham, Koo Wee Rup and Bunyip.  Evening work (until 8:00pm) will be required at least one night a week (currently either a Tuesday or Wednesday).
