Mental Health Social Worker

  • Reviewing progress of outcomes of sessions, supports and strategies
  • Referral of clients to alternative support services as and where appropriate.

To be considered for appointment to this role, prospective candidates must possess tertiary qualifications in Social Work and membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).  Further, prospective candidates must be certified as meeting the standards for mental health set out in the document published by the AASW titled, ‘Practice Standards for Mental Health Social Workers‘ effective 8 November 2008.

The appointee will possess comprehensive experience and interest in the assessment and treatment of a variety of mental health conditions across a broad client group (including children).

This position is available on a part time basis, 4 days per week consistent with (30.4 hpw/0.8 FTE).  Evening work (until 8:00pm) will be required at least one night a week (currently either a Tuesday or Wednesday).

Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner

Applications are now invited for appointment to the position of Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner based at our Chadstone office. The appointee will be responsible for providing family dispute resolution services (mediation). Specific work tasks will include:

· Identifying problem-solving options and strategies and providing assistance in clarifying clients’ problems and disputes

· Assisting parents negotiate sustainable and workable parenting plans

· Assisting parents negotiate financial settlements when these present alongside parenting issues

· Providing assessment in relation to the provision of Certificates as required by Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner Regulations

· Facilitating group programs where required.

Prospective candidates must be able to demonstrate registration as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner together with a proven ability to work within Family Law Act. Knowledge of the effects of separation and divorce on families is essential as is an understanding of the concepts and philosophy of family dispute resolution including mediation and conciliation. Other essential criteria include the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to issues as they arise, excellent communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to rapidly build rapport with clients. Evening work (until 8pm) will be required one day per week, currently on a Thursday evening.

Family Consultant

Exciting opportunity to support the implementation of an integrated model of care for responding to suspected elder abuse.

FMC has been selected to provide counselling and mediation services (including financial counselling) to the trial of the Department of Health and Human Services’s (DHHS) integrated model of care responding to suspected elder abuse.  FMC will work with DHHS, La Trobe Community Health Service and other partners in the trial to further develop an integrated service model for responding to elder abuse.

The appointee assumes responsibility for coordinating all client activity within the program with key work tasks including the following:

  • Development of a close working relationship with Elder Abuse Prevention and Response Liaison Officer to ensure best possible outcomes for clients;
  • Undertaking high level client assessment, care planning for clients, acting as a consultant with older clients in mediation services and referring clients to services that best meet their needs;
  • Provision of counselling services to older clients where appropriate and coordination of all referrals to other services within FMC;
  • Promotion of the DHHS integrated model of care for responding to suspected elder abuse and in doing so, liaise and network with relevant community services organisations, Aged Care Services, hospitals and alike.

To be considered for appointment to this role, prospective candidates must be either a Registered Nurse or Social Worker with appropriate tertiary qualifications.  The appointee will possess extensive experience in undertaking high-level client assessment, care planning and coordination in both community and hospital settings and will have experience in and an understanding of the Aged Care sector.  High-level skills in screening and assessment of elder abuse are essential as is well-developed knowledge of complex care options and services available to the aged.  Other essential criteria include outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, excellent time management skills and proficiency in the MS Office suite of products.

This position is available on a part time basis at 0.6 FTE (days and spread of hours flexible) for a period of 12 months (with the possibility of extension) and is based in Morwell..
